These mills are TITAN's high performance carbide end mills designed with variable flute index and coated with AlCro-Max (AlCrN) PVD coating. They have a corner radius which strengthens the edge for higher feed rates. The variable index design reduces harmonic chatter which increases edge life. We have just finished adding the entire catalog of TITAN's general purpose, single end, solid carbide ball nose end mills. The end of this tool is ground with a full radius equal to half of the tool diameter, and the edges are center cutting. They can be used used for milling a large corner radius, grooving with a full radius, and contour or profile milling. The smaller diameters can be used for engraving. They come with two flutes or four flutes. They are available in diameter sizes from 1/64" to 1". They come in a variety of length configurations from stub to extra long. And they come as uncoated carbide, or PVD coated AlTiN, or TiCN.

The most important aspect of carbide tooling is to run the tool at the proper speeds and feeds. We have broken these recommendations down into categories so you can make better decisions with how to run your end mills. Certain high performance end mills have very specificc running parameters relative to their material families. We have listed these also as individual recommendations. These documents are downloadable pdf formats.

When choosing the right parameters to run, most people focus on the speed which relates to the machine RPM. This is a mistake! Focus on on the proper feed per tooth (FPT), and then adjust the speed. Often when a part is programmed, and is being proven out for production, the programmer will choose conservative parameters and encounter chatter. Chatter is nothing more that part vibration (noise), because the tool is not cutting properly. Usually, the first response is to slow the RPM and the chatter will go away. This often works, but this is unproductive. What has just happened is that by reducing the speed and keeping the feed constant, the FPT has increased. And most likely the FPT before was too low in the first place and that was what caused the chatter.

This feature reduces the harmonic vibration caused during the cutting operations. That means the end mill can be run at larger depths of cut (radial and axial), higher feed rates, and higher speeds than normal general purpose end mills. Third, these end mills have a coolant groove ground along the outside diameter which keeps the cutting edges cooler.
