MacLean Engineering covers the Sub-Saharan African region through its presence as a premier underground mining equipment manufacturer in South Africa. There are two MacLean facilities in democratic Republic of South Africa (RSA) strategically placed to support the local and international customers. The combined area between these two facilities adds to 45,000 sq.ft. of office, warehouse and fully equipped workshops. These facilities support in-country major component repairs/rebuilds through a team of trained technical support engineers and carry a large inventory of spare parts to support the mining industry.
The Northern branch situated in Phalaborwa, Limpopo Province RSA, has been in operation since the early 2000s supporting Palabora Mining Company Ltd. (then owned by Rio Tinto) with the start-up of their Block Cave mine after going Underground from the Open Pit operations. MacLean supported the secondary breaking fleet required by PMC to ensure their draw points are treated timeously. Since then, MacLean has sold, supported, and rebuilt various Drill & Blast, explosives charging and utility vehicles during the Lift I, decline and Lift II development operations as a premier supplier South African mining industry. Midlife rebuilds of two of the MacLean utility vehicles used by the mine were completed from the Phalaborwa workshop in 2016-2017. The mining equipment supported from this branch ranges the entire MacLean product suite from Ground Support, Ore Flow and Utility Vehicles. The regions supported from this branch are the Northern/Eastern limb of RSA, Waterberg, Palabora, Steelpoort, Burgersford and Lydenburg mining projects.
In 2009, MacLean set up a second branch closer to Johannesburg to support the Gold Production Mines in the surrounding areas as well as to assist supply chain for the diamond mines in the Northern Cape Province. The branch is in a small-town Parys, Free State Province. An additional 6500sqft workshop with a 5-tonne overhead crane was commissioned to support the MacLean bolter rebuild investment. Two 946 bolters were fully reconditioned in this workshop during 2017-2018. The regions supported by this branch are Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and Free State Provinces. Greater Africa is supported from Parys branch as well, covering mining customers in neighbouring East, Central & West Africa countries. The latest addition to the MacLean Support in Africa is the Kibali Gold Mine in DRC for Rand Gold Resources.
A total inventory parts value of 30 million ZAR is stocked in RSA to support the equipment fleet in the continent.
