Furthermore, even the flowsheets created by the model developer are new object types.Defining flowsheets as objects allows one to separate structure and configuration (unique for a given flowsheet type) from the operating conditions, which can differ for each instance. This separation makes model reuse easier and encourages an orderly workflow.

There has been a significant progress in the use of mathematical modeling and simulation in the minerals industry in the last decade. Process models have moved from academic world to important industrial tools. This paper reviews the status of mineral processing simulators and recent progress in simulator development and applications is discussed. The simulation for process design and optimisation is now an established technique, as evidenced by its increasing use of practising engineers through commercially available simulator software. The paper presents a systematic approach to the process study procedure for the control system development, clarified by practical case examples calculated by SimCon - a novel steady-state simulator for mineral processes. Examples of the application of SimCon in drawing flowsheets, calculating mass balances and making simulations for grinding and flotation processes are presented. At the end of the paper, the state-of-the-art and the future of computer-aided process study at mineral processing plants is discussed.

This paper focuses on discrete event simulation of a manufacturing unit using ARENA software. The simulation was carried out with an objective to study the flow of aluminium brake brackets in the factory and find out the bottlenecks and also to calculate the productivity and workforce requirements in the unit. The process flow chart of the aluminium bracket was drawn and processing time of each process was calculated using ARENA input analyzer tool and then fed into the software and simulated. For optimization of the results the other tools available in arena like Process Analyzer (PAN) and Opt Quest were used. The bottlenecks were found and a better model was suggested in order to overcome them. In the new (suggested) model, the productivity was found to have increased by 6% and the workforce requirements decreased by 8.33% when compared with the existing (actual) factory model. The method followed in this paper can be used to design process as well as factory layouts for better efficiency of workforces, to achieve optimal productivity and better use of resources.
