Bucket elevator is used to vertically lift mashed limestone, coal, gypsum, clinker, dry clay and other block granular materials and raw materials, cement, pulverized coal, and other powder materials. According to the running speed of buckets, bucket elevators can be combined with centrifugal discharge type, gravity discharge type and mixed discharge type. Centrifugal unloading type has a fast bucket speed and is suitable for conveying powdery, granular, small pieces and other abrasive materials; gravity unloading type has a slower bucket speed and is suitable for the lower section with a tensioning drum; mixing unloading type is suitable for conveying loose density <1.5t/m3 powder. There are few sprinkles during the loading and unloading, which reduces mechanical wear. The traction members of the bucket elevator have a chain, a NE plate chain bucket elevator, a plated chain, and a tape. The structure and manufacture of the chain are relatively simple, and the connection with the hopper is also very strong. When the material with large abrasiveness is conveyed, the wear of the chain is small, but its own weight is large. The structure of the plate chain is relatively firm and the weight is light. It is suitable for lifting hoists with large lifting capacity, but the hinged joint is easy to be worn. The structure of the tape is relatively simple, but it is not suitable for conveying materials with large abrasiveness. The temperature of the ordinary tape material does not exceed 60. C, the clamp steel tape allows the material temperature to reach 80 C, the heat-resistant tape allows the material temperature to reach 120 C, and the temperature of the material transported by the chain and the chain can reach 250 C.
Multiple drive combination (depending on the actual needs of the user). The drive platform is equipped with a maintenance frame and railings. The drive system is divided into the left assembly and right assembly.
The TH series bucket elevator is a commonly used lifting device. The bucket elevator uses a forged chain as the transmission part and has strong mechanical strength. It is mainly used for lifting powder and small particles and small blocks. Different from the TD series bucket elevators, the lifting amount is larger and the operation efficiency is higher. It is often used for the lifting of materials with a large specific gravity.
The NE series plate chain bucket elevator is a new type of bucket elevator. It adopts the plate chain transmission, which is different from the old model TB series plate chain bucket elevator. Its naming method is named after the lifting amount instead of the bucket width. For example, NE150 refers to a lifting capacity of 150 tons an hour instead of a bucket width of 150. NE series bucket elevators have high hoist efficiency, and there are NSE models and high-speed chain bucket elevators depending on the speed of the upgrade.
The TG series bucket elevator is a reinforced belt bucket elevator, which is different from the TD series bucket elevator. The TG series bucket elevator uses steel wire tape as the transmission belt, which has stronger transmission capacity. This series of bucket elevators has been used in grain transportation and has long been called a grain-specific bucket elevator.
Pete Lien and Sons, Inc. produces hydrated lime at the LaPorte plant near Fort Collins, CO. Hydrated Lime is produced by hydrating quicklime. Quicklime is calcium oxide (CaO) and is produced by burning or calcining limestone (calcium carbonate) in a kiln at 2,000-degrees F. Hydrated lime can be used in water treatment, soil amendment processing, and many other environmental applications. As part of the bulk material handling process, bucket elevators are used to elevate hydrated lime to storage silos and to various areas of the process. Pete Lien and Sons had been having problems with several bucket elevators, in particular the boot sections were corroding and wearing out prematurely. Also, the spring-tension take-ups used to keep tension on the elevator chain were not functioning properly. KWS was contacted by Pete Lien and Sons to help resolve the problems and was able to supply a cost-effective and practically maintenance-free solution.
Engineers from KWS made several site visits to Pete Lien and Sons and worked closely with the sales manager at Rocky Mountain Supply, a DXP Company, to determine the correct solution for the bucket elevator boot section in question. The KWS engineers took field measurements of the existing boot section and created a CAD model using Autodesk Inventor 3D. The CAD model was used for verification of the field measurements. The existing boot section utilized a spring-tension take-up with external bearings and seals. Pete Lien and Sons requested that KWS provide a superior take-up arrangement that would minimize maintenance and downtime. KWS offered an internal gravity take-up with a completely sealed boot section. The new boot section would eliminate any leakage of hydrated lime and reduce almost all maintenance. With many years of experience in the field, the KWS engineers were able to determine the exact weight required for the internal gravity take-up to keep proper tension on the chain while not exceeding the load rating of the chain.
KWS designed and manufactured a heavy duty bucket elevator boot with an internal gravity take-up. Hydrated lime is a very fine bulk material and was leaking through the shaft seals of the existing bucket elevator causing maintenance and operational problems. The hydrated lime was contaminating the external bearings and take-up springs causing failure. KWS made the boot section completely dust-tight. As part of the internal gravity take-up, hard iron bearings were located inside the boot section to support the tail sprocket and shaft. The internal gravity take-up was weighted to provide tension on the elevator chain. The internal gravity take-up allowed Pete Lien and Sons to completely eliminate the need for the spring compression take-up. All unwanted leakage, bearing failures and downtime were eliminated. The internal components of the new boot section were constructed from heavy wear-resistant steel for longer life. Lifting lugs were added to the new boot section for easy installation along with bolted, dust tight, OSHA approved inspection doors for access to the inside of the boot section.

Centrifugal bucket elevators are chosen when there is a need to move large amounts of material quickly. Instead of direct loading, buckets serve as the loading apparatus, scooping material up from the boot or inlet section. For this reason, durable buckets should be selected with this design. Centrifugal force at the head pulley throws material from the buckets into the discharge chute. The buckets are spaced in wider intervals to prevent discharge interference from the preceding bucket and to assure maximum fill of the buckets at the boot end while moving at a higher speed. The design of this style yields optimized material fill and reduced interference between buckets.
Continuous bucket elevators are designed to handle friable, fragile materials to minimize product degradation or damage. They are also ideal for handling sluggish or abrasive materials. Continuous bucket elevators are also used to convey light, free-flowing matter where aeration of the material must be avoided.
Material is fed into the buckets from an inlet chute. Buckets are designed for gentle discharge; the buckets are closely spaced on the belt or chain to allow the material to flow over the backside of the preceding bucket, whose extended sides form a chute to guide the material into the discharge spout. Direct loading of the material, combined with the slow speed of this elevator type, avoids the throwing action associated with centrifugal style elevators, making it ideal for use with fragile materials.
Chain bucket elevators provide a higher-capacity, more durable handling option. They are best for jobs requiring rugged handling of large particles, or materials that are heated or have a potential for combustion.
